The Fort Dodge Community School District announces the February 2025 Students and Staff of the Month Honorees. This program recognizes one elementary, one middle school, and one high school student, as well as one staff member, monthly for exceeding expectations.
Liam Schuur is the Elementary Student of the Month. Liam attends Duncombe Elementary.
Shannon Grossnickle nominated Liam by writing, “Liam exhibits positive behavior by putting forth every effort in everything that he does, especially his academics. He is always looking for a challenge! When things get hard he doesn't shy away but faces every obstacle head on. He is always modeling good character and kindness. He is a true role model in what it means to be a genuine friend. His interactions with every student leave them feeling better about themselves! He also treats every staff member with respect and puts forth 100% outside of the classroom as well.
Liam is extremely deserving of this honor because of his behavior overall in school. He is not only an amazing student but also an even better friend.”
Revelle Rubin is the Middle School Student of the Month.
The 6 Blue team nominated Revelle. In their nomination, they wrote, “Revelle is a model student every day, all day. She is a responsible student by engaging and participating in all of her lessons. Revelle is comfortable with answering questions and sharing ideas with the class. She is able to stay on task when working independently, with a partner, or in a small group. Revelle also makes sure whoever she is working with is learning too. If she is absent, she is responsible and checks with her teachers to see what she has missed.
Revelle is kind to everyone all of the time and often thinks of others. At Christmas time, she made her teachers personalized holiday cards that also focused on their specific content area. You can tell she spent a decent amount of time making these for her teachers. Revelle's actions have also shown she has natural empathy. When Mr. Miller passed away she asked some teachers how they were doing. When teachers have been sick, she will ask if they are starting to feel better. She takes time to ask adults things that most 6th graders don't do. Revelle's actions show she naturally cares about others.
Revelle is a role model student everyday and probably has been through all of her school years. She is always doing her best all of the time. Sometimes students like Revelle don't always get acknowledged because it is their normal everyday.”
Brooklyn Pommer is the Senior High Student of the Month.
John McBride nominated Brooklyn by writing, “Brooklyn is taking two Iowa Central online classes this semester and is doing very well in both. That was after taking fall classes and being successful in those as well. She also carries a solid GPA in her high school classes. She balances that with involvement in several extra-curricular activities.
Brooklyn makes sure she gets her work done in time and is willing to help other ICCC students navigate their ICCC classes, especially those who have not taken one prior to this year. She is a model of what our seniors should be doing. She's involved in our school activities, does well in class, and has her future goals in place.”
Shawn Chesteen, Michael Reynolds, and Josh Porter are the Staff of the Month.
Fort Dodge Middle School staff nominated them, writing, “Over the past month, our administrators have worked extra hours, checked in with staff, and ensured that everyone has felt supported. They have not only been present for staff, but have been visible in the pods and classrooms where students see them and feel the support as well. Their problem-solving skills and ability to navigate uncharted waters with grace has been instrumental in keeping our school running smoothly. They have led with confidence, resilience, and kindness.
Shawn, Michael, and Josh always put the needs of students and staff before their own. They lead by example, showing compassion in every decision, offering a helping hand when it’s needed most, and putting the well-being of others before themselves.”
