College Placement/Entrance Exams

College Placement/Entrance Exams

College placement exams are given to students wishing to take college-level courses to measure their overall knowledge in various subjects before assigning the students their aptitude-appropriate level courses. College entrance exams are used to determine admission at 4-year universities. Exams can include subject areas of Math, Science, Social Studies and English, depending on the exam.

ALEKS and ACCUPLACER Exams

If you plan to attend Iowa Central in the future or take Iowa Central classes while in high school, students may need to take the ALEKS and/or ACCUPLACER test. Refer to Iowa Central's Testing Center to schedule a time to take these tests. Students may be exempt from taking these placement tests if they meet Iowa Central's mandatory placement requirements.

ACT and SAT Exams

If you plan to attend a 4-year university, you may need to take the ACT or SAT. While you can take either the ACT or SAT, the ACT is the most widely accepted college entrance exam. You can register for either exam online. The fees to take these exams range from $63-$88, depending on the test. Depending on your family's financial situation, you may qualify for a fee waiver - see your counselor for more information.
